FREE WIFI Arrowhead Mall (Part 1)

If you are looking for FREE WIFI in the ARROWHEAD area, you have several choices to choose from.  Let’s explore a few of them today, but I invite you to revisit this article frequently as I will update my experiences with FREE WIFI in the ARROWHEAD area and invite you to post your comments too.

The first and obvious place to get FREE WIFI in the ARROWHEAD area is Arrowhead Town Center also known as Arrowhead Mall.  Upstairs in the food court you can gain free access to a wifi connection.  I have found this connection acceptable for browsing the web and doing basic tasks.  If you use a dedicated email program such as Outlook or Apple Mail, you will find it difficult to receive and send email.  Web based email programs such as Hotmail, Gmail, Ymail etc… work much better.

Arrowhead Town Center Free Wifi Connection:
Speed: Slow to Medium
Coverage: Poor to Fair (Immediate area only)

A better choice is to visit just below the food court and a little to the East you will find the FREE WIFI connection in ARROWHEAD that comes from the Apple Store.  This is a very fast connection that you can jump onto and surf the web.  Since I use Apple products, I have no problem sending or receiving email and really enjoy sitting outside in the comfortable lounges.  The store has always had a fast connection and with the new Mac OS X lion operating system available only as a download (USB Sticks coming for $69) some customers use the blazing fast internet connection to download this 4gb operating system.  The signal strength coverage is excellent.  I can sit upstairs in the food court and still connect to this connection.

The Apple Store at Arrowhead Town Center Free Wifi Connection:
Speed: Fast to Very Fast
Coverage: Good to Excellent (Usually within 800 feet)

These are the only two stores that I am aware of that you can get a FREE WIFI connection in ARROWHEAD mall.  If you know of any other stores that have a free connection, feel free to comment.

If you move outside the Arrowhead Mall area within a 1.25 mile radius then your options expand for a free wifi connection.  On the southwest corner of 75th avenue and Bell Rd. is a McDonald’s restaurant that provides you free wifi access.  Ever since my phone has had a 3g connection, I find the McDonald’s connection painfully slow and it often drops.  Of course your experience may vary depending on what device you have used.  Hey it’s free so I guess I can’t complain.  If you have had a good experience at this location let me know.

McDonalds 75th Ave & Bell Rd Free Wifi Connection:
Speed: Crawling to Slow
Coverage: Acceptable (Anywhere in the restaurant)

COSTCO Customer Feedback Glendale, AZ

One of the great stores to shop at near Arrowhead Mall (aka Arrowhead Towne Center ) is COSTCO IN GLENDALE AZ.  The COSTCO IN GLENDALE AZ is located just north and west of the mall at 17550 N. 79th Avenue in Glendale AZ 85308.  They are open Monday through Friday 10:00am to 8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am to 6:00pm and on Sunday from 10:00am to 6:00pm.  If you are not familiar with COSTCO IN GLENDALE AZ just visit their website at www.Costco.com for more information on the store.

The COSTCO IN GLENDALE AZ has feedback!  Yes, they will listen and respond to your feeback!  The feedback center is located as you exit the cashiers near the food court. I like to visit them once a week and read through the customer feedback, complaints, requests and compliments that they receive as a grab a slice of pizza, hot dog or chicken salad and a soft drink.  For example if you want a particular item in stock, you can request it.  Recently I saw a request for Skippy brand peanut butter to be stocked instead of Jiff.  Then, there was an answer from someone who works at the store stating that Jiff was a better seller in the state of Arizona and that is why they carried the JIff brand.  Many of the feedback requests were to stock and item or asking “Why did you get rid of ??? product?”  The answer was often “Due to lack of sales or demand” which makes since as the store is trying to maximize profits.  Other answers included “This is a seasonal item and we will bring it back… ” Another product that I noticed that was in demand at the COSTCO IN GLENDALE AZ was the sweet potato fries.  There were at least a half dozen requests for this product.  The sheet answered “We expect to get these in around mid August”.

There are  a lot of stores that take feedback, but this is the only store, that I know of that makes their responses viewable by anyone who stops in the store.  What a novel concept.  I am guessing that once a week all of the feedback slips are collected, entered in to a database or some type of system, products are checked and then responses are given.  Sometimes I have seen a customer request and specific item and the answer would be “We carry that, it is item #12345678 and is available for $x.xx”. In conclusion, it is nice to see that a store like COSTCO IN GLENDALE AZ  not only takes customer feedback, but shows you the responses.

AJO ALS – Mexican Cafe Glendale AZ

Today we decided to take the family out for lunch to Ajo Al’s located in the northwest corner of 75th Avenue and Bell Road in Glendale AZ.  The reason was simple, good Mexican food at affordable prices.

Ajo Al’s has lunch specials 7 days a week that are served until 4pm that range in price from $7.50 for a Poco Chicken or Beef Quesadilla served with sour cream to their signature dish two Poco Pollo Con Quesos with rice and beans for $9.00.  The Poco Pollo Con Queso is white meat chicken, seasoned with black pepper, wrapped in a flour tortilla that is gently deep fried and covered with sour cream and cheese.  Another one of their famous lunch specials is the Letter F. on the menu.  For $9.00 you get a beef or chicken Taco, cheese enchilada, rice and beans.  Plus don’t forget the chips and salsa.

The Best Kept Secret: The $5.99 lunch special that is only advertised near the front entrance near the bar. For just under six bucks you can get a half order of the Poco Pollo Con Queso, a Taco or a Cheese Enchilada with rice and beans.  Ajo Al’s home made Mexican kitchen cooking beats fast food any day of the week.

Personal Favorites: I personally order the whole beans in place of the refried beans.  They are slow cooked and delicious.  Sometimes when I am in a hurry I just phone in with an order of whole beans to go for only $2.75 plus tax, they often give you chips and salsa too.  Makes a great vegetarian affordable lunch to go that can really fill you up.

The Artwork: I have been going to Ajo Al’s for years and this time I paid special attention to the artwork.  The restaurant is filled with original three dimensional canvas collages by an artist that signs the work “Newman”.  As you walk in the front door, you will notice the colorful canvas painting in the front lobby.  It is a painting using the vivid colors often found in Spanish artwork.

In Summary: If you are near Arrowhead Mall and are looking for a great place to eat Mexican Food, give Ajo Al’s a try.  They also have a full service bar with speciality margaritas and deep fried ice cream for desert.  You can’t beat the $5.99 lunch special or the fact that all of their lunch specials are available even on Saturday and Sunday which is a rare find.
